day 2: The legendary city of Cusco
Transfer to Lima International Airport accompanied by your English speaking guide (Duration: about 1 hour).
Flight to Cusco, the "navel of the world" for the quechuas (about 1h15 flight time).
Reception at the airport and transfer to the hotel accompanied by your guide.
Direction to the Temple of Gold, or "Coricancha" in Quechua, where you will discover the foundations of the monastery of Santo Domingo as well as the colonial church ( about 1 hour).
Visit the impressive colonial cathedral, whose construction began in 1559 and lasted nearly a hundred years. Juxtaposed with the churches of the Triunfo and Jesús Maria, it forms an architectural ensemble full of history.
After lunch, departure by private vehicle to discover the main archaeological sites around Cusco, the most famous of which is the fortress of Saqsayhuaman, a site designed to protect the city. For more than 500 years, this site has remained unchanged.
You will also visit, during the day, the ceremonial baths of Tambomachay, dedicated to the worship of water and the gods. The visit will continue with a tour of the Puka Pukara fortress, which is pinkish in colour at sunset, as well as the ceremonial site of Q'enko, a place of worship for the Incas where sacrifices, including the mummification of the noble Incas, were carried out.
