This Pre-Inca site, belonging to the Chiripa culture (14th century) is an astronomical observatory marking the seasons’ changes. This is especially the case during the winter’s solstice, on June 21st; on this day, the first rays of the sun cross through an orifice to project then on a structure carved into the rock. Conquistadors thought, for the shape, that it was a gallows from there the actual name. Apart from its archaeological value, it is possible to also mention the amazing view of the lake and over Copacabana.
