Inkallajta

Literally “the land of the Inca”, this site is not so much visited but is plenty of Inca ruins, almost the most interesting of the country, remembering the Peruvian Machu Picchu. The fortress of Inkallajta, protecting the Inca Empire against the Chiriguano, has probably been built for a religious purpose, from there a kind of similitude with the ceremonial center of Cusco. Seven concentric murals surround the heart of the main edifice (80 m on 25m) and columns would have carried the roof. Located in a charming landscape of valleys over Machajmarka River, Inkallaqta is definitely worth to see.
