Known under the name of « lucha libre » in Bolivia,
wrestling made a name in the city of El Alto, on the outskirts of La Paz.
As indicated by its name, that are
fights, where the only rule is that there are no rules. Resulting violence and
brutality that match the technicity and precision of choreographies.
The other characteristics of this
sport are the costumes the wrestlers wear. Men come wearing massive and colored
traditional costumes. Women, also called “Cholitas” (that comes from “chola”,
which means peasant, farmer, sometimes with a pejorative and dismissive sense,
becoming more and more popular). Sometimes very calm and sometimes provocative,
the costumes the women wear attract even more people on the platforms around
the ring.
