Afro-Bolivians

Not well-known but real minority in Bolivia, the Afro-Bolivians come from the African slaves who were brought from Africa to work in Potosi silver mines. Many of them died there but some aspects from the cultural and social life remember us this page of History.

First of all, the morenada is one of the most popular traditional dance in Bolivia and it tells the story of this black minority which has been brought beyond the ocean. Then, there are Afro-Bolivians in the green hills of Yungas, for instance, wearing the same traditional clothes as the Indigenous, despite the lack of encounter between the two communities.

Their representation at the political level is almost inexistent.
