San José de Chiquitos

Founded in 1697, San José de Chiquitos owns his name from the chiquitino’s people who live in the region forever and who’s been the third mission to open its doors. It is interesting to notice that the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra has been built at a few distances from this mission before to be relocated a little bit further. The stone church is one of the most noticeable of the region, if the woodwork is not as elaborated as it could be on other places, the stone façade is a true mystery that mixes influences. As in San Ignacio, the city is more vibrant than elsewhere and, cattle farming and agricultural activity are really alive, and feed a great part of Santa Cruz.
