San Ignacio de Velasco

The old church of San Ignacio, probably the biggest and the most searched during its edification in 1748, disappeared, replaced in 1950 by cement blocks and then, successive restorations gave it its original style; baroque. But the city kept the “capital” of the circuit for Jesuit missions, which is why there is an important mall, where the indigenous population is largely majoritarian. Proximity with Guapomo Lake makes this village a perfect place to take a rest during an afternoon and an unmissable crossing point in the region (border with Brazil is very close, more or less legal businesses are running). Noel Kempff National Park also attracts a lot of visitors that are more interested in biodiversity and Nature rather than History’s treasures – or who want to see both).
