National Park of Amboro

The other very big park of Santa region is the National park of Amboro. It has been founded in 1973 in order to limit the fast urban expansion of the city of Santa Cruz, as well as to protect this delicate natural heritage. Its geographical situation is strategic because it is situated into the meeting of the Amazon basin, dry plains of Chaco and at the feet of Andean heights. It is stepped between 280m and 3200 height (overpassing here the park called Noel Kempff Mercado). Among the 13 ecosystems present in Bolivia, the National Park of Amboro has 9 on its own… The departure point is from Samaipata. With a surface of 6 376 km², it has about 60% of the bird species of all Bolivia (700 species in total), more than 150 reptile species and all the endangered species are brought there to be protected: the Alagoas curassow (Mitu mitu), the Pauxi unicornis, the spectacled bear… The exploration of this universe, sometimes untouched by Human, can be done with or without a guide, following different circuits and, this, on different time periods (by day, in several days, weeks…). However, some areas are still forbidden to any human so as to protect the living species that are into it.
